Art & Culture Today
The art, theatrical & social events calendar
Today's modern art paintings, sculpture and other faces of modern day works consist of a vast diversity of styles, techniques & movements. The vast range of styles. Never before have we seen so much diversity in both techniques but also materials used. Oil on canvas is still popular, modern day art is seeing more innovation which has led to some unique, even radical artistic representations especially in the area of Conceptual Art & Performance Art. In light of such diversity it somewhat difficult to define modern 20th century art. Indeed modern art has been the subject of much criticism for the apparent lack of technique or even in some severe cases being criticized as non-art.
July 12, 2008 - November 2, 2008: This exhibition focuses on the jewelry of artist Alexander Calder (1898–1976), which functions as sculpture on a small scale while retaining the linear yet three-dimensional aspect of the monumental mobiles for which he is known.
Photo Mandalas: Bill Armstrong and Milan Fano Blatný.
September 6, 2008 - February 1, 2009: This visually bold exhibition of more than thirty photographs brings together two contemporary artists, Bill Armstrong and Milan Fano Blatný, whose work has been inspired by the ancient form of the mandala.
